Tips for Kids and Parents

Hey kids! Remember these simple rules and stay safe!

  • Memorize your home address and telephone number. If your parents have a cell phone, learn that number too!
  • Practice using the telephone with your parents. Learn emergency numbers and how to use 9-1-1 correctly.
  • Always walk or play with friends you know. If you have to walk alone, always pay attention to who is in the area.
  • Always be sure a parent and/or a trusted adult knows where you are and when you expect to be home.
  • NEVER accept gifts or rides from someone you don't know--even if they say they know your parents.
Here's an easy rule: Don't know? Don't go!
  • Keep the doors to your house locked at all times and NEVER open the door to a stranger.
  • When someone calls, never tell them that you are home alone. A simple answer is that your parents can't come to the phone right now.
  • When on the Internet, never give out your name, address, or phone number.
A stranger over the Internet is just as dangerous as a stranger in person.
