Patrol

The Patrol Division of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are responsible for a variety of different tasks. Those tasks include responding to all incidents requested by citizens, filing of official reports, service of warrants, service of domestic violence papers, responding to 911 calls, assisting other law enforcement and emergency services, and many other tasks. The Patrol Division is typically the deputies that you see on a daily basis that patrol our county in marked patrol vehicles, ready to respond to any call. The Patrol Division has four shift sergeants and four deputies per shift to cover all of Jackson County. The shifts begin and end at 6 am and 6 pm. The shifts are named Adam, Baker, Charlie, and David. Jackson County has been broken up into three patrol districts and all incidents within that district are under the command of one of three Lieutenants. These district Lieutenants are responsible for a variety of administrative tasks as well as the supervision of all incidents.


Central District

The central district is under the supervision of Lieutenant Jon Fox. The central district line covers all of Cullowhee, Tuckasegee, Little Canada, Sylva City limits, and most of the town of Dillsboro. Dividing lines in the Dillsboro area are the intersection of Highway 441 and Haywood Road. The intersection of Highway 441 and NC116. It includes all of Cope Creek and continues through Sylva into Tuckasegee and meets the Southern District at the Duke Power House adjacent to NC107. The Central District also meets the Southern District on Cullowhee Mountain Road at the base of Cullowhee Mountain.

North District

The north district is under the supervision of Lieutenant Scott Buttery. It includes Balsam, Addie, Savannah, Qualla, Whittier, and parts of Dillsboro. It joins the central district at the intersection of Highway 441 and Haywood Road. It mainly follows all of US 74 and US 441.

South District

The south district is under the supervision of Lieutenant Clyde Rice. It covers all of Glenville and Cashiers. It meets the central district at the Duke power house on NC 107 and again at the base of Cullowhee Mountain on Cullowhee Mountain Road. It covers all of southern Jackson County and meets the Transylvania and Macon County lines on US 64. It also meets the South Carolina state line on NC 107.

Canines

Our canine division is currently comprised of one Black Labrador Retriever. The canine is assigned to one handler who provides constant care for the dog at work and at home. The canine team is assigned to a patrol shift and in addition to their regular patrol duties, the team trains, provides drug searches for the traffic division, criminal apprehension, person tracking, and article searches.
